To aid our clients manage their water resources, assist them in making informed decisions or show them the impact of events or actions. We build digital products that visualize, calculate and predict water processes and events. Our solutions can make use of our powerful Synapps platform together with advanced data analytics, or come in the form of a complete custom software application. We digitally go where our clients need us.
Synapps is a modern, flexible, and highly configurable web-based platform designed for monitoring, digitalizing, and optimizing the management of natural and human-made systems in water resources engineering, coastal engineering, ports, and water science. It equips end-users with the tools to interpret data and make informed decisions. The platform connects, visualizes, and explores sensor data and model simulation results through multiple dashboards, dynamic plots, and maps. It includes a GIS viewer for easy access to geospatial data and offers instant access to various hydrometeorological data sources and climate model outputs, enhancing your system’s network of sensors.
By centralizing and homogenizing data sources, the modular nature of Synapps allows for a seamless transition from a simple data visualization tool to a fully automated Real-Time Decision Support System platform. Integrating digital twins, advanced analytics, AI, machine learning, forecasting, and optimization, Synapps supports your digital transformation journey. While primarily designed for water resources and coastal engineering, its flexibility and robustness have led to successful adoption in other fields. MyRacewind app helps Pro Cycling teams to plan their racing strategies more effectively.

Some engineering challenges demand specialized solutions. At IMDC, we create and maintain custom software tailored to our clients' needs. Our Digital Water Solutions team combines IMDC’s water expertise with software engineering to develop modern, specialized applications designed to meet your specific requirements. Some examples of the applications developed at IMDC :
PEREX, a Digital Twin and Real-Time Decision Support System designed to centralize and optimize infrastructure management along the navigable waterways in the Walloon Region, Belgium. Click the link for more information.
YAMI application, a tool to assist the Hydrological Information Centre (HIC) of Flanders Hydraulics Research in publishing expected high and low water levels and their timings for key locations in the tidal area of the River Scheldt. Click the link for more information YAMI application.
We offer advanced data analysis and insights, including multivariate analysis, extreme-value analysis, probabilistic design, and machine learning. Our expertise in digital tools, statistical theories, and the water domain ensures you receive the best insights from your data.. Using our in-house developed Synapps platform and other dedicated data science applications, we produce detailed, self-explanatory graphs to help our clients make informed, data-driven decisions. Some of the projects carried out by the Digital Water Solutions team :
Predict beach erosion, wave propagation, and river discharge: employing Random Forests and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) Neural Networks, IMDC successfully predicted beach erosion, river discharges, and wave propagation with accuracy better than traditional models.
Trend analysis of groundwater levels: using advanced statistical techniques, trends in groundwater levels were analysed across Belgium.
Water quality analysis using data mining techniques: based on a wealth of in situ nitrate samples and state-of-the-art data mining techniques, IMDC was able to assess the quality of surface waters across Flanders in an efficient manner.
