The Operational Workability Tool (OWT)

A planning tool that combines the power of numerical simulations and weather forecasts to evaluate and provide recommendations on whether certain operational tasks (e.g. maritime operations, construction works) are safe to carry out under the current and forecasted weather condition.

The tool evaluates forecasted conditions against predefined thresholds that are unique to each activity in your operation. The inherent uncertainty in weather forecasts can be taken into account by the use of meteorological ensembles which are propagated through the entire modelling chain. Meteorological variables considered in the analysis usually include wind and wave characteristics, ocean currents, and water levels; nonetheless, other variables can be included.

Being part of Synapps, the results of the analysis are presented in user-friendly and dynamic dashboards, enabling informed and real-time decision-making during your operations. This does not only allow for efficient planning but also ensures a smooth and safe operation. The tool can be customized according to your needs and IMDC handles the entire process; from preparing input data, preparing and calibrating high-resolution models and processing results, to presenting them in Synapps user interface.
