SeaMade offshore wind farm

IMDC has been involved in the SeaMade offshore wind project since 2017 with several experts contributing to the different phases of the project.

The SeaMade offshore wind project is being realised by Otary together with minority partners Engie and Eneco, and combines the Seastar and Mermaid offshore wind concessions in the Belgian part of the North Sea. In total, the SeaMade project encompasses 58 Siemens Gamesa turbines of 8.4 MW and, once fully operational, it will have an total installed capacity of 487 MW, making it the largest offshore wind project to be developed in Belgian waters. Both Seastar (252MW) and Mermaid (235MW) will be fully operational by the end of 2020 and produce enough electricity to provide 485.000 Belgian households with clean, green energy.

IMDC’s responsibility included tender support, procurement assistance, on- and offshore follow-up of the seabed preparation activities and GIS services. IMDC also provided the seabed mobility studies for the offshore site. During the construction phase, IMDC experts have been cooperating as part of the SeaMade owners engineering team to follow-up on the installation and burial of the export- and inter-array cables.
