Specialist hydrographic monitoring and data processing (Ref. 184)

Your role

To strengthen our team, we are hiring a hydrographic monitoring and data processing specialist. We are looking for a dynamic person with an innovative and inquisitive mindset, who is able to work as part of a project team, but can also work independently and is not afraid of taking initiative and developing new techniques. You will be able to discover many different types of aquatic monitoring techniques, both in national and international projects. The successful candidate’s role will be versatile: hydro survey, data processing, analysis, consulting or client-rep. 


IMDC’s monitoring team organizes measurement campaigns to collect mainly water-related data (e.g. currents, sediments, waves, water quality, groundwater…) and reports the observations to other teams within IMDC, authorities or other clients. The data is collected in different ways using high-end devices such as ADCP’s, sediment sensors, telemetry systems and much more.  

Your degree

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in applied sciences (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Geography, Geology).

Your skills

  • Excellent reporting and data analysis skills in Dutch and English. Knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage. 
  • Knowledge of programming languages (MATLAB/Python), measuring techniques, GIS, and data communications. 
  • Practical mindset and problem-solving skills. 
  • Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions and offshore on vessels. 
  • Proactive, team-player, and able to take initiative. 
  • Relevant experience with water-related monitoring is an advantage. 
  • Flexibility for last-minute changes and occasional weekend work. 
  • Interest or experience in practical skills (e.g., electrical wiring, welding, data communication). 
  • Driver’s license type B.
