IMDC is an international consultancy providing advice upon the development and management of water related projects in the offshore, marine, coastal and river environment. IMDC provides services to the renewable (offshore wind, wave and tidal energy), power generation, transmission infrastructure, navigation, integrated water risk management, ports & harbours, environmental and public sector markets (flood risks, coastal protection).

Job Description

IMDC is looking for a Senior Coastal Engineer to join us in our growing coastal services who loves to challenge conventional thinking to develop innovative, sustainable, and efficient solutions to answer our client’s needs by applying genuinely new ways of working. 

Your relevant technical knowledge allows you to organise, to supervise and to manage projects on a conceptual and practical level, taking into account planning, budget and technical requirements. By linking your academic knowledge to practical solutions, you provide our clients with the best technical and economical solutions and you convince them of your added value. You apply a client oriented approach with leadership, creative solutions and a flexible work attitude. 

You will be asked to manage several multi-disciplinary project teams. You are familiar with and experienced in client oriented communication, amongst which balancing expectations, leading progress meetings and oral and written communication. You write offers and you are constantly alert to new developments and project opportunities. 

You take initiative to report your progress to the management or to ask colleagues for advice. 

You constantly increase your knowledge throughout projects, contacts with academic researchers & institutes and conferences.

Your profile

  • You are a master (minimum) in coastal engineering, hydraulic engineering, civil engineering, or equivalent. 
  • You have minimum 10 years of experience in Coastal engineering, coastal modelling, and/or design of coastal and offshore structures (breakwaters, erosion protection, offshore foundations,...).
  • You have an analytical mindset and good programming skills (Python, Matlab, Fortran, R…), experience with coastal modelling tools (waves, currents, sediment transport, erosion, flooding …) to be able to specify, build, calibrate, verify, debug and apply coastal hydrodynamic and morpho-dynamic models. 
  • You are pro-active and not afraid to take initiative to report and ask for feedback. You are a real problem solver, and always looking for ways to improve models and our way of working. 
  • You mentor colleagues to continue their journey to become experts in their field.
  • You like to work in a young, dynamic team in an international environment.
  • You are continuously searching for new, innovative solutions for our clients. 
  • You have good reporting skills. 
  • You have excellent communication and reporting skills in English (both in writing and verbally). Fluency in Dutch and or French is an asset. 
  • You show responsibility to meet planning, budget and technical requirements. 
  • And last but not least: you want to use your skills to contribute to shaping our engineering designs in balance with nature.
