Job Description

IMDC is looking for an experienced Water/Marine Environmental Engineer/Scientist to lead our Hydro Environmental Services Product in the management, technical execution, training of engineers/scientists and quality assurance of our growing project portfolio. The team undertakes services for implementing Nature Based Solutions, performing Environmental Impact Assessment studies, Environmental policy studies, Ecosystem Service analysis studies, as well as environmental modelling and monitoring. 

The responsibilities of the Product Manager are as follows: 

  • Sales and Business Development: responsible for business development, lead detection, generation of opportunities and preparation of offers to win work within the marine environmental market both within Belgium and overseas.
  • Team Management: responsible for the organization and distribution of work (proposals/offers and projects) among the team members, taking into account their skills and experience, but also interests and wishes to further develop. You will safeguard the workload of each team member. Together with other Product Managers, you will solve the planning and capacity for a good balance of private and professional life. 
  • Strategy: further develop and implement a strategy road map for the product. 
  • Project Management: manage and direct projects and provide technical input on projects relevant to marine and water EIAs, Nature Based Solutions and other environmental and ecology services. 
  • Technical expertise: provide technical expertise and coaching to team members in one or more of the following topics: water/marine environmental impact assessments, ecosystem services, nature-based solutions, marine/water environmental policy, marine/water ecology. Having a link to research institutions is a plus. 
  • You will be a member of the Management Team and will report to the Operational Director. 
  • You will be a bridge-builder between management, project leaders, commercial team, team members and other product managers to ensure the overall operations at IMDC (not just your own team) is managed in the most optimal manner. 
  • You build strong communication and close working relationships with internal stakeholders as well as clients and partners, bringing proactive input to projects and proposals. 

Your profile

  • You have a master’s degree in bioengineering, biology, environmental science geography, marine and lacustrine sciences or equivalent. 
  • You have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the marine/water environmental sector. 
  • You have a proven track record of winning work in the marine/water environmental sector ideally both in Belgium and overseas.
  • You have experience with contractual issues between client, consultant and contractors. 
  • You have experience in managing a team of technical colleagues.
  • You have good influencing and negotiating skills to sell the right projects to our customers. 
  • You are client oriented. 
  • You are both a good team player and a strong people leader. 
  • You are willing to work on national and international multi-disciplinary projects, in Belgium and abroad. 
  • Accreditation as a Flemish EIA coordinator/ expert Biodiversity / Water or being able to present a pathway to apply for accreditation in the near future (within 6 months) is a plus. 
  • You have excellent reporting skills, ideally in English, Dutch or French.
