Your role

We are looking to expand our team with a medior or senior engineer who will work on geotechnical and general engineering studies for a variety of projects in offshore, coastal, marine and port environments and occasionally on in-land water related projects. 

You will become part of the Marine, Dredging & Port Engineering product, but with a close link to the Blue Energy product, which provides all kinds of services for offshore projects. Additionally, this team also provides (geotechnical) support to projects of other products of IMDC. As such you will assist in studies and designs for a wide range of structures: 

  • For offshore projects this can be scour protections, cables, turbines, foundations, platforms and state-of-the-art artificial islands.
  • For coastal projects this includes breakwaters, coastal defense structures and breakwaters. 
  • For marine, ports or in-land projects this involves jetties, quay walls, dikes, dredging and reclamations. 

Job description

  • You are able to lead and perform the geotechnical studies and designs of various structures, including all kinds of calculations among which (seismic) stability checks, liquefaction and consolidation calculations. 
  • You mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance to support their development. 
  • You are able to lead and manage the back-office support during (offshore) soil investigations, from drafting specs to quality check of data, followed by advanced (geotechnical) data analysis. 
  • You explore different technical domains and contribute to projects in both national and international contexts, leveraging your expertise to tackle complex challenges. 
  • You demonstrate initiative, independence, and confidence in making engineering decisions to ensure project success. 
  • You communicate effectively by delivering reports that are clear, concise, and tailored to diverse audiences, ranging from factual summaries to in-depth scientific analyses, suitable for both specialists and non-specialists. 

Your profile

  • You have a MSc in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent. 
  • You have a minimum of 6 years of experience on geotechnical studies for various offshore, coastal or port structures. 
  • You have a background in the design of various offshore, coastal or port structures (e.g., breakwaters, foundations for offshore structures, involves jetties, quay walls, dikes, dredging and reclamations). 
  • You demonstrated knowledge of geotechnical site characterization. 
  • You have experience with relevant geotechnical (advanced) numerical software and tools. 
  • You have knowledge in project management with the planning, management and delivery of technically challenging projects on time and on budget. 
  • You are flexible, eager to learn and open to broadening your knowledge across diverse technical fields. 
  • You refine and expand your geotechnical expertise while sharing best practices with colleagues. 
  • You are proactive, a team player and you take initiative to report and ask for feedback. 
  • Missions abroad are a welcome interruption of your daily office work. You are willing to work on national and also international projects abroad for short and long periods (as an expat). 
  • You have good programming skills, preferable in Python, or you are willing to grow this skill. Experience with QGIS and AutoCAD is an advantage. 
  • Languages: Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of Dutch, French, German, Portuguese or Spanish is an asset.
