Your role and job description

As a Medior/Senior Coastal Engineer specializing in Hydraulic Design, you will:

  • Lead the Study and Design of Coastal and Marine Structures: Oversee the analysis and design of various offshore and coastal structures, including breakwaters, groins, revetments, scour protection systems, coastal defense structures, and bed and bank protection measures. 
  • Project Management: Manage projects from conception through completion, ensuring designs meet client specifications and adhere to industry standards. 
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior engineers, fostering their professional development and ensuring high-quality project deliverables 
  • Technical Development: Refine and expand your expertise in data analysis, statistics, and hydraulic engineering software, while sharing best practices with colleagues. 
  • Effective Communication: Prepare and deliver reports that are clear, concise, and tailored to diverse audiences, ranging from factual summaries to in-depth scientific analyses, suitable for both specialists and non-specialists. 
  • Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored engineering solutions. 

Your profile

  • You have a master degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, with a focus on Coastal and Marine Engineering.
  • You have a minimum of 6 years of experience in the hydraulic design of coastal and offshore structures. 
  • You demonstrated experience in the design of coastal, offshore and/or maritime structures, such as breakwaters, coastal protection structures, scour protection systems, or harbour structures. • Familiarity with relevant manuals and codes, including PIANC, the Rock Manual, British Standards, and the EurOtop Manual. 
  • Experience working in a coastal, marine or hydraulic physical modelling laboratory is an advantage. 
  • You have a proven ability to plan, manage, and deliver technically challenging projects on time and within budget. 
  • You are flexible, eager to learn, and open to broadening your knowledge across diverse technical fields. You are proactive, a team player and willing to take the initiative to report and ask for feedback. 
  • You are open to national and international assignments abroad for short and long periods. 
  • Proficiency in programming is beneficial. Experience with Matlab, QGIS and AutoCAD is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of Dutch, Spanish or French is an asset.
