Junior Engineer – Marine Geotechnics (ref 170)

Your role

We are looking to expand our team with a junior engineer who will work on geotechnical and general engineering studies for a variety of projects in offshore, coastal, marine and port environments and occasionally on in-land water related projects. You will become an integral part of the Marine, Dredging & Port Engineering product, providing support to all projects within this and other products of IMDC. In these projects you will assist in studies and designs for a wide range of structures: 

  • For offshore projects this can be cables, turbines, platforms and state-of-the-art artificial island;
  • For coastal projects this includes breakwaters, coastal defense structures and scour protections;
  • For marine, ports or in-land projects this involves jetties, quay walls, dikes, dredging and reclamations.

Job description

  • Design and study different types of marine structures, using advanced numerical software and in-house tools;
  • Collaborate on national and international projects with a multidisciplinary team of experts;
  • Develop your skills in (offshore) soil investigations, (geotechnical) data analysis (with machine learning) and all sorts of geotechnical calculations (e.g. using GeoStudio, Plaxis or in-house tools);
  • Work under the supervision and guidance of an experienced project manager or senior colleague, who will provide you with the support you need to succeed;
  • Demonstrate initiative, independence and gain confidence to make engineering decisions;
  • Report and present in a clear and concise way, tailoring your communication style to different audiences. 

Your profile

  • MSc in Civil Engineering or equivalent, preferable with a major in dredging, offshore or hydraulic engineering;
  • A first experience, such as a thesis related to design of a marine or offshore structures is an advantage;
  • You demonstrate flexibility, willingness to learn and a desire to broaden your knowledge in a variety of fields;
  • You take initiative and show responsibility to meet planning, budget and technical requirements;
  • You are pro-active, a team-player and you take initiative to report and ask for feedback;
  • You are open to missions abroad are a welcome interruption of your daily office work; 
  • You are open to work abroad on national and international projects, for short or long periods (as expat);
  • You have (or are interested in learning) programming skills and experience with AutoCAD is an advantage; 
  • English is the main language at IMDC, any other language such as Dutch, French, German or Portuguese is an advantage.
