Job Description

IMDC is looking for a hydraulic engineer with an interest in hydraulic analysis of natural and manmade rivers and drainage systems. As an engineer you will be engaged in studies and projects related to the sustainable use of our natural water resources, such as climate change impact assessment and mitigation (floods and droughts), nature development, and (inland) navigation, both in a national and international context. You will be able to apply your relevant technical knowledge in a team of professionals. By linking your technical understanding of a problem to practical knowledge, you provide our clients with the best technical and economical solutions.

Your profile

  • You have a master in civil engineering, with a major in hydraulic engineering, and 1 to 3 years of experience. You have at least university-level knowledge of hydraulics, open channel flow, and hydraulic and river engineering, or an equivalent level by experience.
  • You have knowledge of soil mechanics, nautics, sediment mechanics, and/or statistics.
  • You’re able to gain insights in and tackle a hydraulic problem without needing hydrodynamic modelling packages, although experience with one or more of these packages (e.g. InfoWorks, HEC-RAS, Mike) is an asset. You look forward to further develop your expertise in hydraulic engineering.
  • You have an analytical mindset, you’re able to conceptualize a problem, are keen on analyzing data, using your programming skills (Python, Matlab, R…) and using (conceptual) modelling tools.
  • You are pro-active and not afraid to take initiative to report and ask for feedback. You are a real problem solver, and always looking for ways to improve the hydraulic design of structures and our way of working.
  • You have excellent communication and reporting skills in Dutch and are fluent in English or French (both in writing and verbally).
  • You show responsibility to meet planning, budget and technical requirements.
  • And last but not least: you want to use your skills to contribute to a more sustainable use of our natural water resources.

Our offer

  • A young and dynamic work environment that values professional development and initiative where you are supported daily by colleagues from all over the world.
  • A range of interesting, challenging and significant (inter)national projects (with occasional brief assignments abroad) in a company that has innovation and sustainability as its core values.
  • An attractive salary package (including insurance and bonus plan).
  • A flexible work schedule and good work-life balance, plus an office next to the Antwerp train station.
