Marine geologist – geophysics (ref. 129)

IMDC is an international consultancy providing advice upon the development and management of water related projects in the offshore, marine, coastal and river environment. IMDC provides services to the renewable (offshore wind, wave and tidal energy), power generation (nuclear, gas), offshore transmission infrastructure, navigation, integrated water risk management, ports & harbours, environmental and public sector markets (flood risks, coastal protection).

Your role

IMDC is looking for a marine geologist with minimum 2 years of practical work experience with a survey contractor and now has the ambition to apply this valuable experience in our projects. Clients of IMDC need technical advice on survey investigations and set up, related to Blue energy, dredging or offshore developments. 

We are looking for a dynamic person, who is able to work as part of a project team, but can also work independently and can take initiative. You will discover different technical domains and be exposed to different aspects of a project, from offer phase to execution. You will be able to apply your relevant technical knowledge in a team of professionals both in the offices of IMDC and on site when required. By linking your practical experience and geological knowledge you will provide our clients with the best technical and economical solutions. 

Job description

  • You are capable of writing technical specifications for geophysical surveys (MBES, SSS, seismics, magnetometry, positioning), technical evaluation of offers, critical review of survey documentation and analysing survey data. 
  • You are willing to act occasionally as offshore client representative for geophysical surveys.
  • In addition to survey aspects, you are also interested to be involved in or have experience in geological interpretation of geophysical and geotechnical survey data, review of geological desktop studies or other theoretical studies where the subsurface is involved. 
  • You will be part of the Blue Energy team of IMDC and you will work in close collaboration with the other teams of IMDC (Coast & Estuaries, Digital Water Solutions, Water Resources Management, Marine, Dredging & Port Engineering, Water Computing & Monitoring).  

Your profile

  • You have a university degree in marine geology, geophysics, geotechnical engineering or equivalent. 
  • Minimum 2 years of practical work experience with a survey contractor on site. Extra years are considered a plus.
  • You have a thorough expertise in geophysical and hydrographic survey, including positioning.
  • You understand the H&S processes and procedures related to survey and fieldwork equipment and their applications. 
  • Ability to write reports and technical papers.
  • It is an asset if you can demonstrate knowledge on one or more of the following topics: software packages for geological interpretation (e.g. Kingdom Suite), GIS, metocean measurements. 
  • You are interested to be involved in or have experience in offshore infrastructure projects. 
  • You look for creative solutions rather than just 'output' and you like to generate innovative ideas that can make the difference for our Clients. 
  • You are a team player, but are also able to work independently and show responsibility to meet the project planning, budget and technical requirements. You are pro-active in your progress and ask for feedback. 
  • You are willing to work on national and international projects and consider short missions abroad as client representative during geophysical surveys as a welcome interruption of your daily office work.
  • You are fluent in English (both in writing and verbally) but a good working knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
